Families

Families offer an important source of support for students with ASD.  They also often serve as advocates for educational and employment opportunities.  The family section overviews how you can be involved in the transition planning process while your family member is still in school and how to remain involved as they enter postsecondary education or the workforce.

The resources in this section will help families prepare for the transition process.  The advocacy section contains resources related to advocacy skills and teaching and assessing self-advocacy.  The FAQ section contains documents designed to answer questions families may have about a variety of topics ranging from what to expect in college or the workforce to how to teach a student to navigate difficult social interactions.  The resources section provides links to other organizations and material that family members may find helpful. The assessment section contains material designed to identify a student’s abilities and goals.
