What You'll Learn
Module 1: Foundations of Culturally Responsive Support for Autistic Students
Explore the concepts of neurodivergence, culturally responsive practice, and the educational, legal, and ethical reasons this work matters. Participants will also be introduced to the Courageous Conversations framework to support reflection and growth.
Module 2: Troubling Our Understanding of Autism
Examine how language, culture, and assumptions shape our understanding of autism. Learn about identity-first and person-first language, autistic culture, and how to move beyond deficit-based interpretations of autistic behavior.
Module 3: Developing Reflective Awareness in Supporting Autistic Students
Investigate how beliefs, unconscious bias, and systemic practices influence educational decisions and outcomes. Participants will explore equity, justice, disproportionality, and strategies for reflective decision-making.
Module 4: Culturally Responsive and Asset-Based Practices
Put learning into action through practical strategies that affirm autistic identity, support diverse communication and regulation needs, and create accessible learning environments that foster belonging and success.
