Communities

Communities play an essential role in promoting equitable access for individuals with ASD.  For example many communities have begun providing first responders with training related to ASD to ensure the safety on their community members.  But, the need for access goes well beyond emergency services, individuals with autism make use of all businesses and services across the community, and many are essential to their success.  Daycare, public transportation, restaurants, and any other organization can prepare themselves to serve individuals with ASD with assistance from the resources on this site.  It is important to remember that because Autism Spectrum Disorders are a spectrum, everyone is different. By getting to know the individual you can encourage meaningful interactions that support individual needs.
